Week 8
- Agenda
- Next week: Aaron Meyers – he is a flash genius and the whole class will be a work session where he can help you.
- Spring break?
- Present remaining appropriation projects
- Talk about ideas for games
- Grades: In week 10 we finish the Web part of the class and move onto the Final Cut part, so on the 9th, I will be looking at everything you have submitted so far and send you an email with some notes. So if you have any projects that are done but not on the blog, please post them ASAP. As you know, I definitely encourage using other peoples’ code, but please always give credit when you have done so. The comments that you have left for other people count as class participation.
- Today we will learn about listeners. Please download this bunch of Flash files.
- Tip: Using Actionscript 2.0: I don’t recommend doing it often, but sometimes you may want to use some really good code that only works in ActionScript 2.0. Either choose “ActionScript 2.0″ when creating a new document, or go to File > Publish Settings… click on the “Flash” tab, and change “ActionScript 3.0″ to “ActionScript 2.0″
- Eample work
- Homework
- Start programming your game. You have 2 weeks to finish, but I suggest starting immediately.
- Come to class next week with questions for Aaron.
- Technical Resources (if you search for your own technical resources, make sure that it is for Actionscript 3.0!) (In approximate order of quality/usefulness)
- ActionScript is an “Object Oriented” language. This is what I was talking about when I said that some variables can have other variables inside them. Here are some good introductions to Object Oriented Programming in the context of Actionscript 3.0 (in this order)
- Adobe Flash help
- GoToAndPlay – A few up-to-date but pretty advanced tutorials about building games in Flash. Again, unfortunately many of them are not in ActionScript 3.0, so be careful.
- GoToAndLearn – Good video tutorials. Make sure you are dealing with Flash CS3 and Actionscript 3!
- Kirupa – Chock full of good, up-to-date, detailed tutorials. Definitely check this out.
- Getting Started with ActionScript 3.0 in Adobe Flash CS3 (with example files)
- Actionscript.org
- Flashkit
- macromedia.flash newsgroup – This is good if you have a specific issue that you want to search for, or an issue that you just can’t solve and need to ask someone for help.
- Some tutorials on making specific games
